How To Clean Your FRC Flame Resistant Jacket

This week’s tip is concerning an FAQ question that we get this time a year which is “How Do I Clean My FR Jacket?”.

Your flame resistant jacket can be cleaned either at home or at a dry cleaners. The advantage of cleaning it at the dry cleaners is that if the jacket is heavily soiled in oil and grease the dry cleaning process should take that all out. Remember if your work clothing is saturated in oil and grease the substances could actually add to a flame source and cause much more damage and injury to you.

If you would like to wash your jacket at home I would suggest the following:

* Pre-scrub the jacket with a stain remover such as “Shout”
* Tap the soiled areas with a soft brush in order to help break up the stains
* Let sit for 10 minutes
* Wash on a “Warm” temperature setting
* Dry on warm just a little to get most of the moisture out and then hang dry your jacket
* Do not use fabric softeners or bleach

This process is the same whether the jacket is made of the Nomex fabric or flame resistant cotton.
