Are you Sure the Electrical Circuit Is “Not Live”?

Being an experienced electrician can sometimes go against ones better judgement through the fact of having done the job over and over for so many years. Even when all the correct procedures have been followed in de-energizing the equipment there is still the possibility that not all is what you think it is.

Some examples of what can happen when the electrician, the person working on the equipment prior or the people that that set up the equipment in the first place does not follow the correct procedure are as follows:

1.
Drawings are not up to date or mislabeled.
When this happens the next electrician has no way of knowing for sure that the drawings are correct when the circuitry has been altered due to repairs and re-wiring.
2.
Did you put the circuit in an electrically-safe working condition. Okay you pulled the disconnect but are the disconnect blades in an open position?
3. Not verifying that your voltage meter, is working properly. Wouldn’t you get the shock of your life (literally).

Has this happened to you?

To make matters worse there is the possibility that one will remove the required arc rated PPE thinking that the equipment they are working on has been de-energized.

Think about it.
If you don’t then your family will wish you had.

This message is just a little reminder to you to remember why you are working in the first place.
That’s all….
